Lonely in the cyberverse

I think I am beginning to understand what drove the weirdos in Texas Chainsaw Massacre nuts. Running a gas station in the middle of an empty desert, with nothing but your crazy, homicidal son to keep you company, cannot be good for the nerves. Of course, I do have the advantage of not having any psychotic relatives living under my roof, but this blog does feel like that dusty old gas station. Every now and then I get the odd passerby who stops to pick up a snack before moving on to their desired destination, but that is about it.

I have been trying to figure out how to increase traffic to the site. Short of spamming porn, I am not sure what I can do. I am listed on the NNSL blog page (that has generated about six hits). I have also tried to get on the NWT Blog directory, but to no avail.

Any advice the three people (I think I am included in that number) who read this blog can give me on generating traffic would be greatly appreciated.

Ultimately, the blog’s goal is to motivate me to write more. So far it has been working. I hit a bit of a snag last week due to circumstances out of my control, but I am generally pleased with that part of it. However, it would be nice to get some regular visitors and maybe a few contributors.

If you have some pointers feel free to pass them along.

I read this article today and although it’s a little basic, there are some useful tips. See point No. 10 – have you found other sci-fi bloggers to connect with yet?

There is so much you can do. It is all about getting yourself out there.

Right off the bat, I would suggest commenting on blogs you regularly read or have an interest, like Liz mentions.

If you want more help just let me know, I can point you in some of the right directions. This is something I have obsessed with for a while.

Yeah, you’re pretty new to it. Don’t get discouraged.

The best way to get more traffic is to start participating in the community a bit more. Find some blogs you like and start commenting on them. It takes time. Don’t worry if you don’t have many readers at first: it takes everyone a while to really get into things.
